hello everyone,
I have a 17" powerbook 1.67ghz that was released about a year ago, with the 1440 x 960 resolution screen. Around the end of december, smoke poured out of the slots and there was major sparking. I brought it into a service centre, and they said that there was a short in the display cable. They had to replace the whole screen. So it was on back order until this week -- they got it, installed it, and found that the logic board was fried too...not to mention that the warranty expired on the 11th of february.

So I called Apple under the recommendation of my friendly technician and they said "no problem -- we'll replace it." wow. But they offered me two options:

a new 17" 1.67ghz powerbook with the 1680 x 1050 screen resolution

or

a new 15" dual 2ghz macbook pro.

I have invested in this computer a 1gb ram chip, that will be incompatible with the new intel 'book. All of my apps are compatible enough with the intel platform.

What do you guys think? What would you take?

-jamie

MacBook Pro. If all of your software is "compatible enough," as you say, then there is no question in my mind.

I love my 17" Powerbook, but I would trade it in a heartbeat for a new Macbook Pro. Even if it was only a 15".
