Does the MBP benefit from two identical RAM SODIMMs vs a a single SODIMM?

(Some computers like the older iMacs get double the bandwidth from paired sticks).

Yes it should benefit from paired RAM sticks, but by how much? Wait until there are benchmarks.

Basically it's dual channel RAM, so 2 512 MB sticks will have 2x the throughput/bandwidth of 1 1GB stick. I don't know how this translates into real world performance gains either, but I imagine it would be quite substantial.

AFAIK the idea of using "paired modules" is just so both have the same timing and other specs. You can put any two 512MB sticks in, however it will use the slowest timing that either supports.

Having two DIMMs gives you nearly twice the bandwidth of having just one stick. If that affects the performance of your app depends on what your app does.
