Hi,

I am interested in getting a new MacBookPro and I currently have a desktop G5 Dual 2GHz (the original one).

I would like to know if there is any data out there which provides standard speed test results for these two Macs - I really want to know if the MacBookPro would be faster than my current desktop G5.

If anyone can help I'd be most grateful.

Many thanks,

John

So, nobody knows if there are any standard speed scores around by which one can make a comparison with a newer and older computer?

On the Apple site they only compare Powerbooks with older Powerbooks.

i think its best if you post a series of tests youd like results on, and ask both the powermac forum and this forum to run them. then compare the results for yourself, i doubt there are toooo many mac book pro owners that own an original 2.0 g5 tower as well...
NOW YOU SEE ME! 2.4 MBP and 2.0 MBP (running ubuntu)

The MacBookPro will be very similar in speed to a dual processor 2.0GHz G5. A bit faster in some things, a bit slower in others, a lot slower in apps running in Rosetta. There have been plenty of benchmarks of the intel iMac which demonstrate this. Go to BareFeats, etc etc. and take a look.

I saw an xbench comparison in this section of the forum somewhere that paired a DP 2GHz with a MacBook. The MacBook was faster in many areas.
