So here's what I got...

A 15" Aluminum with a display that got damaged in a drop.
2 fully function 15" Titaniums (DVI) that work fine.

I've heard it may be possible, but can't find any hard info. What I'm trying to do is see if there's any way I can get the display from the Titanium to replace the damaged one on the aluminum. I don't really care if it's pretty or not, just want to know if it can be done.

Thanks for any inut.

It shouldn't be a problem, but if it's a tricky business changing the casing yourself, I believe Apple care would do it for you for 100 bucks. For a DIY you first need to detach the rear display bezel and it's a shitload of work. You can go to PBfixit.com for instructions, they give very detailed instructions for the whole process. Your require some tools and a lot of time. At the end of it all if the Ti display case won't fit, all you'd need to do is go on ebay and get a cheap 2nd hand casing. I think PBfixit sells 2nd hand ones as well but ebay may have some really good offers.

No, won't work. No, AppleCare would never touch that with a ten foot pole even if it would fit. Don't take it to an apple store, cause they will put it at an automatic tier 4 repair, which is about $1200. Best bet, get someone to do it for you with a part from ebay. I can do it if you're in SoCal.

Well the last time I checked (a few months ago) on the Applecare hotline with some customer service person, they'd do a rear display bezel case change for about 100 bucks. But you'd obviously have to purchase the aluminium rear casing from them and that costs a bomb, about 200 over bucks a pop. They wouldn't use a Ti for the replacement of course.

Trust me, they don't... and I would know. Apple mail-in repairs charge only by tiered rates. Tier 1 is about $325 and includes any out of warranty repair so long as there's no accidental damage. Tier 2 is about $6xx and is when there's casing damage, but nothing else wrong with the comuter at all. Tier 3 is about $1000 and is when there's accidental damage to the unit, and there's functional damage as well. Tier 4 steps that up and is when the LCD is damaged. Tier 4 runs about $1200.

The only way to get out of the tiered pricing is to bring it into an Apple Authorized Service Provider to do the work. They will charge you part + labor. Most Apple Stores will only ship in your computer if there is damage. Plus, they would never accept the use of any parts other than what Apple ships them. Other service providers may vary, but they're SUPPOSED to use only parts from Apple.

mactopsuit, your location says Japan. Perhaps you have info for AppleCare Japan, that would be different from what I know. But knowing what I know about Apple, I highly doubt they would do it in AppleCare Japan as well.

Maybe that's it, I called one of those apple authorised service providers, and then I was in Australia so that was about what they quoted in USD when I damaged my casing, my LCD was ok thank God!
