Not that it makes any difference to me as I neither own a MBP nor plan on getting one, but I was messing aronud on my iMac, and I put CHAD on it from the developer tools on the iMac disks, and this allows me to disable one core of the processor. I was just wondering, if you do this on the MBP, would this not increase battery life significantly when on the road and just using Safari, word etc?

Just a thought for you who are not totally satisfied by the somewhat average battery life on your shiny new laptop

Actually, contrary to the popular belief, disabling one core will NOT improve your battery life. The two cores run in sync at lower speeds, and disabling one will cause the other to kick into "high gear", lowing your battery life!

Hope that helps.

The Centrino power management goodness can disable one core anyway if system load permits. Disabling one core yourself will only lead to lower performance and possibly shorter battery life (two cores at 800Mhz may burn less than one at 1.6Ghz).
