I was just wondering, how safe or effective are third party batteries on the MBP or my 12" PB?

I got one for my sister a while back from batteries.com. So far, so good (and the price was unbeatable). If reliability is a big concern, you might check out the ones made by Newer, which you can find sold at OWC. Newer is definitely a reputable brand name, and they tout having higher capacity than the original Apple batteries.
