my 1ghz ti pb is starting to grind almost all the time now. I dragged my harddrive icon into my external LaCie HD and everything is there. Except that it is an alias file. If and when my powerbook dies, i will be getting a new one. my question is, Should i just drag the image that i made on my external into the new pb harddrive and hope for the best, or should i just keep it on the external and get what i need and dump the rest of the old? if the first, would everything be the same as on my current pb or would there be some changes?

You can either use the OS X migration tool to copy everything over from your old laptop to your new laptop.

Or you can use Cardon Copy Cloner.

I do it with SuperDuper!, all you need is this:

you get the whole hard disk cloned into your external LaCie and once you get a new internal hard disk, do it again from the external to the internal and you are done.
