Hi!

Im planning to get myself a new MacBook pro. I am a current PowerBook owner. Clearly I want to move all of my data from my PowerBook to the Macbook. Can any of you confirm/advise me of how I should move the following;

(1) Email in Mac Mail – I have a number of mailboxes etc. I would like to move them (inc preferances, rules etc) to the MacBook. How do I do this?
(2) Photos in iPhoto – I assume that I can just copy the entire contents of my Pictures folder to the MacBook. Is this correct?
(3) Music in iTunes - I assume that I can just copy the entire contents of my Music folder to the MacBook. Is this correct?
(4) Other programs such as Unison, Transmit, NewsNetWire, Rapidweaver and others. I assume that I can just copy the apps from the Applications folder to the Macbook and they will just work OK (inc. any preferences that I set in these applications)

If anyone can confirm/advise on my ideas above id much appreciate it. Also if anyone has any tips, things to avoid when moving stuff from one Mac to another id also appreciate that.

Cheers

Jason

When you start the MBP the first time, it will prompt you to transfer your data using the Migration Assistant. Just follow the instructions on screen. All of this will be explained, but you'll need to boot the Powerbook into target disk mode and connect the two machines with a firewire cable.

Otherwise the Migration Assistant can be found in the Utilities Folder in Applications.

It's what I did and you can select which items you want to move over (files, applications, settings, etc).
