Something's definitely wrong with my 800 MHz G3 iBook. The battery had been doing very well for a 3 yr-old battery, clocking in at something like 2600 mAH and just under 2 hours of battery life.
Then suddenly last night, it crapped out. I'll spare you the gory details of my troubleshooting, (I did zap the PMU and PRAM/NVRAM), but now even though my battery is installed properly, the computer is not recognizing it. Furthermore, one of the four battery lights are stuck on -- the button doesn't do anything, and after yanking the battery out of the iBook the light stays on.
I'm assuming that the battery electronics are fried, and I need to get a new one. (I don't suppose if I bought a dead battery on eBay with working electronics I could possibly salvage my better-than-nominal battery cells? I'm prepared for a bit of soldering if it could save me some money.) But I'm wondering if anyone else has seen a failure like this, and whether anything else might be wrong. Do you suppose the DC board is fried as well? How can I tell, short of finding another battery to test my iBook with?
