When operating my MBP with an external monitor in closed lid mode the sleep light is on even when the computer is operating. It doesn't "breathe" it stays a constant intensity.

If I pop open the screen while in closed lid mode, the light goes off while the operation remains the same (external screen on, internal off); close it, light comes back on.

Does anyone else's computer do this? Is this a bug or a new condition of closed lid operation?

Also I've noticed that while the sleep light comes on instantly when I close the lid when using the computer sans external display, the computer doesn't go to sleep right away. The HDD continues to spin for a while (writing memory for safe sleep?). I don't have a problem with this, except that I am not given any indication the computer is truly in sleep mode and ready to be picked up and moved. I am really not keen on having no idea when the HDD actually shuts down when I am trying to get going.

I'm pretty sure that the light coming on when the lid is closed but not asleep is to indicate to you that the machine is in fact on with a glance. When you close it to put it to sleep it instantly goes on to tell you that the machine is on, but then after a few seconds or so will begin pulsing to tell you it is asleep. Once the light is pulsing then you know that it is asleep.

Yep, I tested this and the pulsing does seem to indicate the sleeping. Guess this is just the new situation.

Kind of annoying though. I'm used to closing my PB and being able to take off, not wait 20 seconds before I can move it. Actually, let me rephrase, that's REALLY annoying.

On my PB, when the light stays on, that means it's on but the screen is off. When the sleep light is pulsing, that means the computer is sleeping. So when you hook up your MBP to an external monitor, the screen on the computer is off but it's still on.
