Ok, I bought an iBook G3 500mhz locally from a guy who said it needed a new hard drive. I opened up the ibook and put in a 40gig hard drive. I didn't get the original install disks with the iBook, but I have a old OS X cd. When I start up I see the question mark icons, then it starts up from the cd, and I continue through the installer until it reaches the select a destination point in the installation. I get a window saying something about I have to install OS 9.1 to run classic programs, I click ok and thats it. I can only go back. I'm guess I have to get a new hd cable because the hd isn't being detected?

Any ideas anyone?

You need to format the drive. Click on the installer menu up on the menu bar when in the installer. Open disk utility, click the drive on the left, and erase it. Then restart the computer and the HD will show up in the destination area.

Was it hard to do? My 1ghz iBook has 3 months of warranty left on it, so by then there will be no reason to get Apple to install it, other than save me the stress of opening up my baby.
