So I finally just got my first mac, a Powerbook 17". I re-installed Tiger without the Printer Drivers and extra Languages, installed the apps I use and a day later that top right menu with Spotlight, Airport, Bluetooth and Salling Clicker - they all just used to disappear as soon as I restarted my machine sometimes.
That wasnt very frequent, so it wasnt a big deal. Now, those icons are no more there - even after several log outs and reboots.
I thought the problem was with Salling Clicker, so I took that off, still no luck
Someone here had this problem before? - Im using the latest 10.4.5. I'd hate to reinstall and put all my stuff back in there again.

Never had this... but you might want to try to repair disk permissions with Disk Utility and see if this helps.

Still nothing. Thanks for the tip though.
Also, would you have an idea about why my external HD that was just formatted to HFS+ keeps getting mounted again after I eject it? Doesnt give me any time to take it out - just mounts it back up in 2 seconds.

Do you have the same issues if you create a new user? might be some corrupted files in your LIbrary folder...
You can try to delete com.apple.systemuiserver.plist in Library/Preferences

SystemUIServer (the process that runs the menu extras) is crashing. This suggests that you have installed something that conflicts with it. Do you use any other third party menu extras other than Salling Clicker? Check that they are all up-to-date.
Try deleting com.apple.systemuiserver.plist from your ~/Library/Preferences folder. This will reset the menu extras to the defaults.

Ok now there's 3 files that showed up when I searched for it. One in the Library Preferences folder - one in Library/Preferences/ByHost folder called com.apple.systemuiserver.000d936ce486.plist and one called SystemUIServer.crash.log in Logs folder.
Which is the one im after?
Is this problem serious and likely to appear again? I havent installed anything thats not meant to be here.

Delete both .plist files. The crash.log is what it suggests it is - the log that records the crashes. If you open it, you will get a crash report detailing each time it has crashed and why (in developer speak).
Is it a serious problem? Probably not but delete the plists first and then get back to us.
FWIW, Salling Clicker is not meant to be there and neither is any other third party menu item - any that are there are through hacks or workarounds. Apple disabled the ability of third parties to use the menu extra API in version OS X 10.3 (or was it 10.2). It is possible that if you are using any that there is a conflict. Just make sure they are completely up-to-date if you are.

Hmm I deleted the files. Still nothing!
Although, that Salling Clicker thing was the only icon remaining on top when things started to get crazy. So I took SC totally out. I was using a trial version but im pretty sure that circle thing on top was Salling Clicker.
What are my options now. I've managed to backup my sutff onto an external HD now. Should I re-install Tiger with a complete wipe-out?
Also as I mentioned earlier this External HD is acting funny. It keeps mounting itself back up after ejecting it.
Appreciate the help =)

If you haven't installed the recent hacked version of Front Row, that's very strange. If you're having problems with your external HDD too, I would suggest maybe giving Apple a ring. If you just got this, the easiest thing might be to replace it now, rather than later on down the line.
Just my two cents.

Thanks everyone for the help. I re-installed Tiger and put my photos and stuff back in. Everything runs smooth on 10.4. I'll upgrade to 10.4.5 maybe a little later once I get the hang of this thing.
Learned my lesson though - Do not trust 3rd party apps from places other then their official webstie.
Thanks again guys =)

FYI
I've just repaired the same problem by reinstalling the last PPC update. No need to spend hours bringing your system back up.

I have had one or two disappear but that was because I had so many icons their was not enough room depending on what program I was in.
