OK it just happened again right when i started posting this topic. Since last night, my powerbook has been randomly putting itself to sleep. Does anyone know why this would happen? My only guess would be that it is overheating, but i've done WAY more intensive stuff on it before and its never put itself to sleep. Anyone else have any guesses or with the same problem?

I have the same problem with my PB. I'm guessing it's because of the heat, it usually happens when i leave it on the carpet. Since then I put it on a laptop cooler and it has never done that again. Use a temperature monitor ( Such as this) and watch the processor temp. It shouldn't go over 70 degrees Celcius.

actually after i posted that it would start up, then sleep itself after about 2 seconds. but i unplugged my monitor from it (it was in clamshell mode) and it seemed to be working fine. so i backed up my files on my external hdd while it was working. then i put it to sleep, plugged the monitor back in, and its been working fine since.....weird

My PB has been doing the same exact thing - it started two two days. It intermitently goes into sleep mode, even though I have both display and HD set to 'never' in the system prefs.
I spoke with the good people at Apple, and after trying a few of their suggestions (such as resetting the PMU) to no avail, they are at just as much of a loss as I am. They are telling me to bring it into a service center at this point - Something I don't want to do.
Any come up with a fix for this, or any other suggestions?
