Ok this is a little different than from the other topics becuase it seems to have nothing to do with either processor load or the display.

I got my MBP on friday and did not notice anything during the weekend. Then today (monday morning) it started making this static like noise. It's not the HDD (opened activity monitor and saw no activity occuring and the noise persisted) and it does not sound like healthy HDD if it is.

It's not the display, not the speakers (turned them off and it still occured) not the fan as I can hear that fine.

It sounds like white noise, but when I play music the speakers sound fine, and then i mute them OR plug in external speakers it still occurs. I turned off wireless and bluetooth to no avial.

However, it DOES stop when I plug in the powersupply and run it off current and not Battery
Should I send it back to apple? I have the 2 years apple care protection plan.

thanks

Did you try the photobooth fix (just load photobooth and see if the noise stops). If it does - it's the same "whine" people have been complaining about. Mine seems to quiet a little when I plug in the adapter too - but photobooth shuts it up all together.

If that doesn't fix it you may have a different issue.

It does fix the issue but I shouldn' have to open an app to get my computer to work properly.
I've decided to wait because chances are even if I did send it back Apple would just send me a unit with the same problem.

I have three years extended warrenty anyway, so i'm not too worried!
