Im a new member here, just regestered. Anyway, I had a question regarding memory for my PB G4 17".
Anyway, my question was mostly answered by searching the forums, but in my quest i came across a great website, reccomended by someone on this board, with just the right kind of memory, pc-2700 DDR 333. Now, I have found memory for both my revision of powerbooks and the one right after (ddr2). Im looking to add a gigabyte stick to bring my memory to 1.5 gigs, so i checked prices on these modules.

anyway, i found this:
http://www.datamem.com/parts_that_fi...E_Apple_A_C_E_

for 112 dollars. Not bad at all! Much better than Apple's 300...

but then i found this for the next revision of powerbook:
http://www.datamem.com/parts_that_fi...E_Apple_A_C_E_

so, if this is correct, the FASTER memory (which would do me no good, but thats not the point) is 6 dollars cheaper than the slower, older memory designed for my machine...

huh? Am I missing something?

thanks in advance for any comments, Im glad i found this place!

Frank

I'm not sure if you can change your thread title more than a few minutes after posting, but you'd probably get more responses here if this were called something like "RAM for 17" PowerBook". Try double-clicking the title from the PB/MBP forum page.

FWIW, I think getting RAM that's faster than your machine is safe, but I'm not sure. For six bucks, I'd probably stick with the seller's recommendation.

P.S. How's NOLA? I used to live there (left pre-Katrina) and I often miss it..

One is DDR and the other is DDR2. DDR2 is cheaper because it's what's currently being produced in volume, while DDR is yesterdays technology (non-DDR SDRAM is even more expensive).

You're stuck paying the higher price, since they're not pin compatible.

sorry, missed half of your question.

NOLA itself is a pretty sad sight, but around Tulane its really clean and you cant even tell there was damage. Go a coupla blocks away from campus though, and its quite a different story. On the upside, however, macdonalds is paying 10.50 an hour with an extra 250 a week bonus. too bad i dont have a car.
17" lo-res 1.67GHz alubook,
100gig 5400rpm hdd, 1gig ram, soon to be 1.5 when my funds are up to par.

It will not work, DDR2 and DDR have different voltage requirements. Furthermore, they are different standards. It is actually the only time that I can think of personally, when RAM that would fit in the slot would not work. That is kind of weird, actually.
