My girlfriend just bought a new mbp 2.0. It is an excellent computer and I am considering getting one, however, I still want to squeeze a few more months of out my thinkpad. I will probably purchase a new computer in about 4-5 months. I am not too familiar with macs, and I frequently hear talk of "rev A, B, C" ect. How often does Apple do revisions and when could we expect one for the mbp?" Also, what kind of things would you think would be in an MBP rev B? Finally, the mbp has some manufacturing glitches like the whine in some computers. Would they wait to fix this until the next revision or do manufacturing errors get fixed quickly and within a month or so they will be a thing of the past?

Take a look at this thread for some thoughts on this question. If you can live with your current machine, I'd wait a few months, or until you can't wait any longer. Major glitches would be fixed without waiting for another revision (there's a rumour that shipments of Macbook Pros are currently on hold while they get to the bottom of the 'whine' issue). That said, if you bought a machine now I don't think you'd regret it.

Powerbooks (the MBP predecessor) had about a 9 month cycle. I don't think anyone really has a clue about the MacBook Pro because we're now dealing with Intel which has a faster turn around with new cpus.
as for what could be added in for a revision b. There's the obvious - a faster cpu, but aside from them its difficult to pin down, They removed features that may make it back into the MPB but I doubt it. Features such as Firewire 800 and a pc card slot. The most likeliest additions are a 12 and 17 inch models.
An interesting site that might be helpful is Mac Buyers guide

I expect we'll see Rev B, with 64-bit Merom chips, in the fall.

thank you for the helpful link. while its not too big of a deal, do you think that we might get a little more tilt out of the screen any time soon, or would that definetely be a rev b sort of thing?

So does your girlfriend's MBP whine or get real hot? Any problems with it?

pardon my lack of capitalization, my shift key fell off. her computer has a slight hi-pitched buzz. it isnt too noticible. the back of the computer does get hot, but no more so than any other laptop that i have used. sometimes the trackpad freezes up for a few moments, and disabling 'ignore inputs' in the settings menu doesn't seem to help. otherwise it works incredibly well.
