I currently have a 15" powerbook G4 1.67GHZ (high-res). I got the powerbook for free since my sister destroyed my old ibook about a month before the powerbook got updated. Anyways the powerbook has been great for providing me my mac needs over the past few month's, but now I am looking for a powerful primary computer. The reason is that I still have my windows desktop, which I have seldom used for more powerful apps and gaming. Now that I am going off to college relatively soon, and I have pretty much fully switched over to macs, I would prefer to only have a mac. Basically I would rather just have the one computer in college.
Further reasons is that I have been having a few re-occuring problems with the powerbook, and the macbook pro really seems like a much more reliable computer. That and the powerbook seems like it will be too slow to serve me all of my computing needs. Things I will be using it for will be everyday computing, school work, music listening/editing, some photoshop work, some flash work, some video editing, photo editing, some programming, playing some games (some high-end), ect. Basically a computer that will perform all of my needs well, and I also want the computer to last me a few years.
If I go through with this, I will put my powerbook up on ebay and pay the difference of the macbook pro. The macbook pro I am planning on buying is the 2.0GHZ model, due to this I will be a bit pressed for cash due to some recent expenses. If I will upgrade my mac this year, it would most likely have to be done before the summer since I will be traveling, moving, and doing school work. Due to that I doubt I would ever be able to be without a computer once the summer starts.

I have the exact same model PB that you have with the hi res screen and have been considering an early upgrade myself. However, I think it might be better to wait for the next version of the MBP since the transition is not yet complete. Its also likely the next version will not be as noisy as what has been reported on these forums and may have some new wireless capabilities.
I don't have any issues with my PB however so perhaps it might make more sense for you to upgrade now. When you do sell there still seems to be a decent market for 15 inch powerbooks strangely. The price crashed just before the MBP came out, but has risen again after the 15 inch PB was discontinued. In addtion, no retailer seems to be discounting any new PB that they still have in stock. I wonder what that means. . .

Seems to me that it might be prudent to wait a few months to see what bugs are going to develop with a computer with a completely new chip inside. I also would like to upgrade to the new Intel laptop but think I will gut it out and see which way the wind is blowing. By the way when you sell your PB on ebay (re-occuring problems) please let me know as I was looking at G4 Ti 1.67 on ebay.

The price on the 15" 1.67 PB is more than holding its own. New ones have not even dropped in price with a new intel sitting right besides them at CompUSA. Same price. You want find many on eBay and the ones that appear that seem to be ligit are bring strong prices.

Yes they have dropped, you just gotta shop around. CompUSA is not a good price to compare pricing. I had a thread about it, and got some heads up from members here.
People buying on ebay are just crazy. I guess it's good for the sellers.
I can get the last PB 15" for $1399 from a couple places, and that's new. But I want to wait for a 12-13" Macbook.
