So, i recently bought a set of Bose creature 2 powered speakers, plugged em into my 15" g4 powerbook, and enjoyed wonderful rock music.

i then unplugged the device, so i may move about with my powerbook, and no more sound from the powerbook speakers! in addition, the sound control panel gives me no option to change sound output devices anymore, and the red optical sensor glow is contantly on, inside the audio output jack, seemingly mistaken that an optical device is forever connected.

has anyone encountered this? or am i just a complete tool?
