Hope everyone can find the courage to help out a nOOb. I was wondering two questions, actually.

1) A friend has an iBook 900MHz G3, 14", and she's running Panther on it. She has had keybaord problems, where the numlock light doesn't turn on nor off and the keyboard is only sometimes stuck in it. Basically, when she is in the administrator account, it is stuck in numlock. When she creates and uses another account, the keyboard works fine. She re-installed OSX and it worked for a few days, only to return to its wierd keyboard state. Any ideas?

2) Does the original iBook (clamshell, blueberry) have a bad battery connector? I have been reading that even new batteries wont charge if bought. Mine now only runs off of the power adapter. Thoughts? Ideas? Comments? Let me know.

I don't have an answer to your first question.

As for the second, I have a 300MHz Blueberry clamshell that has been going strong since new without any issues. I am getting ready for a 3rd battery but have never had a problem with bad hardware when it comes to charging a battery.

Sounds like your battery is dead and needs replaced. I would not go for a "good deal" off eBay. That is the reason for me needing a 3rd battery. You might get a good deal but if you plan on keeping your laptop for another year or more, you are better off getting a new one.

With lithium Ion batteries it's a matter of when the battery is made. It has a finite life even if never used. I can imagine that even the newest clamshell batteries are several years old.
