i've had my ibook for about three years now, and until today, i've had absolutely no problems with it. i'm running tiger (10.4.5).

today, i woke my computer up and opened up safari. it completely froze (which it's never done before) before the page finished loading. my mouse disappeared, it was completely unresponsive. i tried closing the screen for a few minutes to see if it'd go to sleep. no such luck. after a few minutes, horizontal lines started appearing all over the screen, flickering on and off. they were mostly red and blue, and almost looked like static? i'm not quite sure how to describe it.

i ended up turning my computer off, and when i restarted it (after briefly panicking), everything was back to normal. i used my computer for about an hour and a half, and since it didn't happen again, i chalked it up to a fluke and put it back to sleep.

when i woke it back up, the same thing happened. it froze, the lines came back, the whole ordeal. i restarted it again, and it seemed to be okay for about five minutes before it happened again. i finally gave up and just shut it down, letting it rest for a few hours. i've only restarted it now, and so far everything seems to be working okay, but i'm really concerned the problem will happen again.

does anyone have any ideas as to what this could possibly be? i haven't dropped it, it was fully charged.. sigh. my poor little computer.

thanks!

The only thing I could think of would be faulty wiring in the screen

thanks for the reply! turns out it was a logic board issue.

thankfully, the logic boards on the g3 were recalled, so the part was still under warantee and it's getting fixed at no charge to me.
