hey

im considering getting either an iBook or an iMac but am still unsure as to how portable i will need to be.

anyway, i can't seem to find any info on the ATI Mobility Radeon 9550 graphics card thats in it.

anyone have any info on it? along with any info about a 32MB of DDR SDRAM, i dont really have a clue as to what that means.

would it be capable of running Adobe Illustrator CS2 and Photoshop on it? or should i consider going with the iMac or a more powerful laptop?

thanks

9550 is more or less a 9500, which was the mid-grade graphics chipset from ATi 4 generations ago. It supports Tiger Core Graphics.
It should be fine running Illustrator and Photoshop, since neither uses the GPU much.

i have a 14" ibook g4 with 32MB ATI 9550 and i run photoshop CS fine. but i'm not a heavy user. if you will work with advanced graphics consider buying a powerfull laptop if you need to carry on your computer

Your CPU speed (and type) is far more important in regards to photoshop and illustrator than your graphics card. Your graphics card type and amount of video ram will probably not ever worry you until you go to play a 3d game. The iMac would undoubtedly be much faster than the iBook for these applications.
