I have two SmartDisk FireLite external firewire drives, one 80 Gig, the other 100 Gig, which I use for alternate daily backups.
Both work perfectly on my PowerbookG4, and have been used daily for the past year.
The 100 Gig works on my new MacBook Pro (Intel) however the 80 gig will not mount, and in fact after being plugged into the firewire drive causes a kernal panic (grey screen, 4 language instruction to restart) about half the time.
Calls to tech support at SmartDisk were unhelpful, they are escalating. I took both drives to the Apple Store and replicated on two of their MBP .. the 80 gig will not mount, the 100 gig will.
System Profiler can "see" the 80 gig drive, but DiskUtility cannot see it.
I hooked the 80 gig drive back up to PowerbookG4 and reinitialized it; used TechTool Pro to inspect it (no problems) even optimized the brand new directory with DiskWarrior. But once cabled back on the MacBook Pro, it still will not mount.
Any ideas? Anyone have this situation> Anyone able to use 80 gig on their MBP?
