The first thing I did was search the forums extensively and have came up empty..

The computer takes about 10-15 mins to boot and loading any application takes about 30-90 sec to open and each action in the application is as slow.

From reading the forums......
I ran boot disk for diskwarrior. Everything was fine.
Ran in single user and ran that script to check the disk. Everything was fine.
Ran disk utility and did the usual. Everything is fine.
I check to make sure all the ram (768) was recoginzed....it is...

I have no idea what to do now. It appears that the hardware is ok. Any advice?

Also I checked activity monitor for any processes that were taking up cpu
nothing...

Just a minor question: How full is the HD? You should have at least 15% free space, minimum 2 GB (more like 5 GB)

Remove the extra RAM and report back on what that does to your startup time.

Really weird. I've only ever had slow boots when the disk was about to fail (i.e. S.M.A.R.T errors.). I know you mentioned you checked this and it was ok.

Could it be some kind of network detection issue on startup? But that wouldn't explain why launching apps or using them was slow.

Have you tried the Apple Hardware Test on the Software Restore disks?

Is this a new problem, or has it always been like this? Have you tried re-installing. What OS are you running?

last suggestion: do you have (or can you borrow) a firewire external HD, with OS X installed? What's the startup time using the external firewire HD? This will show whether the HD is responsible or something more bizarre.

Frankly, I think your HD is going bad even if the SMART status seems OK. If you've got Applecare, it's covered. If not, replace it yourself, using the guides at pbfixit.com

A bit off-base (you may think) but I've seen this happen many times with a corrupted user fonts folder, where it can take up to 15 minutes to get to your desktop. When the system finally boots -- I'm guessing you log straight into your home folder -- go into your user Library, and drag the entire fonts folder out of the Library and onto the desktop. Reboot your computer, and if your boot time returns to normal, you've found the problem. Then, all you have to do is isolate and repair the corrupted font. Or replace with the known good set from another user/computer.
