I have a friend who I might be buying a iBook 900MHz 14" from, and she claims that the computer has been pampered all of its life from her since she got it brand new. I am borrowing it right now, because I want to have a...test trial? If you will, and I have noticed some cosmetic issues. They are:

1. Bottom of screen (plastic part) is coming off of the actual screen. Wierd/odd.
2. Right hand corner of the laptop has a crack in it. (doesnt this only occur from being dropped?)
3. Battery doesnt sit right in the battery "bay."
4. It has a tray-loading ROM. Did these come stock or whats going on with this?

Should I be concerned?
Whats some opinions, etc.
How bad is your cosmetic condition for your computer/how long have you had it?

Help out a n00b!

Is it a G3 or G4? You can go to http://www.mactracker.ca to download Mactracker. This program will tell you what model you have in front of you and what features/specifications it came with.

Just from what I have read, I would say that that iBook is a little beat up. Maybe you could find an image hosting web site to post some pictures on and then link it to here.

Its a G3 iBook 'coz of the tray load CD.

In regards to the battery - the battery in my G4 is relativly loose, i think its a trait of the 'book

That makes sense (that it is a G3), I was just too lazy to look it up myself.

I've never seen an iBook with a battery that sits perfectly flush on the inner side.

The fact that its a G3 would turn me away from it given the rather hit and miss problems with the logic boards. Some people never have the problem, others have gone through 5.

unless it still has some warranty left I would stay away from it unless it's dirt cheap.
my year and a half old 1.2ghz g4 ibook has only minor scratches on the outside and the loose battery, no discoloration on the palm area or keys and no cracks of any kind.
