Hi guys,
New to the forum, and I have lost my OS X disc. Is it possible to format without this disc? Like access Disk Utility. My hard disk has some bad sectors, and its not recoverable, so need to complete a re-format, but with no Install disc, is this not a possibility?

Thanks guys!

Nope.

Apple may replace your original install disk for a nominal fee, though, if you call support.

Have the serial number of your book handy.

So...

With no Original Disc...What options do I have?

I bought my Powerbook in February 2005, is the media CDs still covered in warranty?

Do Powerbooks boot from DVD-RW or CD-RW?

That.

I'm not sure if they will boot from DVD-RW or CD-RW, but i see no reason why they shouldn't.

OTOH, RW media are completely pointless, IMO.

They're more expensive, and while they're reusable, they simply get unreliable eventually.

Not really what you want in digital media.

Warranty doesn't cover carelessness or negligence.

You'd need another hard drive or system with an installation compatible with your PowerBook. Assumming you don't want to clone your drive with the bad sectors there, unless you're desperate. You can boot from the external drive, format the internal drive, then clone a system installation onto it.
