i use car polish, not the cut and polish, but just the wax. It does miracle to my iBook G4. Brand new, and if polish well, minor scratches dissapear. wel almost.

Endust Electronic Cleaner Wipes. Come in a tube, work great on keyboards and the white plastic, but not so well on the screen. Anyone have something better?

I might have to try that magic eraser.

magic eraser for the "wrist pads" and most surfaces on the iBook, for the keyboard, honestly haven't found something that works well so I ended up getting the iSkin aka Keyboard Condom. For the screen I just use wal mart brand glasses lens whipes

I went out and bought a $1 Mr. Clean Magic Eraser - it did a very nice job. The grease on trackpad, etc is gone, and it looks/feels like new.

Kudos to whomever figured that out.

It didn't scratch it at all, or remove the texture of the wrist area? You just wet the eraser and then start scrubbing? How hard did you have to scrub?

I've heard that the Mars Plastic Eraser is good for this sort of thing, but to keep it away from the keyboard, as it dulls the keys.

I've always used a drop of dish detergent in a bowl of warm water. Dampen a rag (with the iBook/PB off) and it does a great job getting out the grease. I use eye glass cleaner and cloth on the screen. Never use anything with alcohol!

I went over to my grandmother's house earlier this evening to wish her luck on her trip to Las Vegas tomorrow. She had one of the Mr. Clean Magic Erasers, so I asked if I could have it. All I can say is that I'm absolutely amazed. My iBook looks brand new. I didn't scrub hard at all. I started in a small area of the palm rest (the left one was really dirty), and the dirt literally disappeared. I went around the rest of the iBook, on the outside (the corners are dirty from the inside of the case I keep it in - great case, but the black fabric dye on the inside bleeds a little, and the corners of my iBook were slightly black/purple). Discoloration there was wiped clean, too.

Before I used the eraser, just as a test, I used my iKlear wipes (which are great for the screen, by the way), as I always do, and got a little dirt off, but the stains on the outside of the case, and on the palm rests, are always there, no matter how hard I scrub with those (they are a waste of money, frankly, as you can get screen cleaner cheaper). Apple told me, about a year ago, that they were what was needed to clean the palm rests. They were wrong, because they never worked. I thought I just had to live with the stains.

I took pictures of the whole event, and I'm posting them on my site either tomorrow or Tuesday. I'm still amazed. I just washed my hands again because I'm a little worried about getting it dirty now. It's like brand new.

One question, though, for whomever else has used the magic eraser before - can you use it on the keyboard without rubbing the letters off or causing any other damage?

I have used it multiple times on the keyboard - it does not take the letters off.

Does the Magic Eraser pull the grease off, too? I used one on a wall in the house and if I scrubbed too hard it took some of the paint off, so I am a little hesitant to use it. But if you guys swear by it, I'll give it a try!

What do you mean by grease? Do you mean that nasty dark spot that appears on the iBook's palm rests after you use it for a few months? If so, yes, and I now swear by it. Believe me, I didn't scrub that hard, and I looked at it under a light repeatedly so I could watch to see if there was any weirdness happening to the finish of the plastic, or scratches. I'm a freak about that sort of thing. I had to scrub a little harder on the shell of the iBook, to get the dyed areas cleaned off, but not nearly as hard as I imagined I would.

What is this thing made out of? Anyone know?

Well i'm not that hi-tech when it comes to cleaning so I just used a wash-cloth from the sink, soaked it up and rung it out and it cleaned the ibook like new. I also clean the screen with a rag when I get fingerprints on there. For some reason I just can't stand to look at the fingerprints, maybe because then I can't see anything??
