How do you guys determine which part is malfunctioning. Do you simply use a voltmeter or what? I am curious because I was told I needed a new logic board and was quoted $600 to have it fixed, and yet I looked for just buying a logic board to fix it myself and I can't find anyone selling one for less than $700. Suffice to say I think I may be being cheated, and would like to diagnose the problem myself at this point.

Thanks

The screen is black but the LCD is still functioning properly.

Could be:
1. inverter board
2. bulb
3. wires
4. logic board

macservice.com reported that it was a logic board problem. I would like to know if anyone knows how to physically diagnose a powerbook to determine which piece of hardware is faulty.
