Ok so im new to a mac and its my first Powerbook. I was using iMovie to compile a recent conference, and I noticed it took almost an hour to just bring the videos to iMovie.

So I downloaded a program to check my CPU and Memory usage and there it was - only using about 24MB out of the 1024 that's available (check snapshot)

Is this normal? Is there a way I can make use of all that 1GB of memory I have? Also cutting movies from Quicktime were slow too, but got better after a restart. Does my powerbook have a cold?

I don't know what that program is you're using, but I'd just use Activity Monitor to check for sure.

It took me a few minutes to figure out that Activity Monitor is a built in app. I went and googled it hoping to find a shareware =)

Ok so I got rid of that and here's a screenshot from using Activity Monitor. Still same results. Also now my iMovie is stuttering majorly. Like even the preview screen is lagging. They dont play smooth anymore

Ok, 1st off, please post smaller pics, the moderators may not like this much.

2nd, I just did the same thing you did - import an iMovie video - on my MBP and got similar memory results (in fact it used less - right at 32 mb). I too have 1 GB of RAM.

However, my CPU usage was at 7%, whereas your's is at 80%. Even adjusting for the MBP's superior processor, that seems unlikely. What PB are you using?

17" 1.5Ghz with 1gig of RAM. Sorry about the pics, I tried posting smaller but its very hard to see them results then..

So even with the MBP, a typical 1 hour movie would take like an hour to import?
