OK, newbie here
Be gentle
I've got a couple of PB's 12 inchers. One of them is for work (clean - ish) and the other for music. I've got 2TB's of external storage for my 300GB music collection and various backups etc.
Basically, both PB's are playing up. Music PB has fried her hard-drive (various invalid sibling links, trying to rebuild b-tree's, 9972 etc). I tried everything to get the data off - a week of Disk Warrior, Target Drive, Disk Utility - and I eventually gave in and did a complete re-install.
It was successful, but I knew something was wrong when I tried to run Disk Warrior on the new, pristine Tiger and it failed to boot. I know I have a working bootable DW disk as it runs fine on my other PB.
Of course, 4 days later, I get the same problem - the PB won't startup properly and I get this kinda circular noise as if it's stuck.
Do I have to replace the HD? Trouble is, I'm living in China and I'm going to have to do it all myself. I get the impression from reading other posts here that I should go for a Seagate or a Hitachi. Is there anything else I need to know when trying to bargain for one in my limited Chinese? How much should I be paying...?
Also, does anyone have a link to a description (with photos prefereably) of how to take one out and put another in.
On another topic entirely, my work PB has recently been freezing on the top application for the last couple of weeks. From that moment, I can use the top application fine but can't change between them. The dock doesn't appear and I can't alt=tab. I can close the top application, and use the one below fine, but still can't change between them
Any ideas
Thanks in advance for any pearls. As you can imagine, China is not the easiest place to get these things repaired...
