I have a 1st gen 17inch poweer book. My hd craped on me so I ordered a 100gig 7k hd.

I followed instructions and I don't know if there is any jumper settings I am supposed to do. I can not seem to turn it on. The battery lights up and the power does but I don't know what I am doing wrong.

I just followed this http://www.powerbook-fr.com/IMG/pdf/pbg4_17_133.pdf

any help will do.

Try using this guide. I have used their website since I have been a powerbook owner.

And you are booting from the system OS X CD that came with your PowerBook? You have to do that to re-install the OS to the new hard drive.

Won't even power on. I ended up taking it to the shop for 100 bucks. I at least took it apart to cut the work load so I do not get charged double.

I dont know if selling a dead PB would be worth it...I'd just bite the bullet and fix it...maybe find a logic board on ebay or somewhere and have someone replace it for you
