Hi,
I have an iBook 1.33 GHz, 12", 512 mb ram. I have recently joined a club in which I need to do a lot of photoshopping (nothing TOO too intensive, but definitely need more than simple image editing). Can the iBook handle it? I'm not too impatient so if it has to render anything, I don't mind waiting a little - I just need to make sure that it won't constantly freeze because of lack of ram or memory or anything like that.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Kypris

I'd think about upgrading to 1.25GB.

Really depends on what kind of work you'll be doing in Photoshop. If you're simply editing images for the web, your set up should be fine. On the other hand, if you're heavy editing of large, high-res images for magazines, posters, etc., more RAM would be a good thing (not that more RAM is ever a bad thing )
The 12" screen could be a draw back too, but you can pick up a really nice CRT monitor (17" or larger) on eBay for cheap.

I was doing good photoshop (cs) work off of my Compaq 14" Presario a while back, that has 284mb of ram, back before I switched to Macs. It handled it nicely, but would just lag sometimes. I also picked up my 19" CRT out of the trash for $FR.EE

My old iBook 1ghz is ok for most photoshop use, however it can get slow, especially when dealing with files over 10mb. I've got just over 100 photos all around 25mb in size I need to work on and just found the iBook too slow.

I'm running Photoshop on an iBook that has 768MB of RAM. I want to upgrade the RAM, but not just because of Photoshop. You should probably do a RAM upgrade to about 1GB (RAM is cheap for iBooks, and you can get a 512MB chip for under $50 at RAMSeeker.com. You can get a 1GB chip for under $100, if you want to go all-out. Really, you will probably see Photoshop running a bit slow on your machine, but nothing that would cause you to scream, unless you are doing extensive work.

Check Adobe's website. They will tell you quite clearly what the system requirements are for running Photoshop, as well as any other application they sell. Simple.

If you are planning on lite work with photoshop with your ibook, your amount of RAM is plenty. But like other people have said, if you are planning on making large posters with big pictures, then you are going to want to upgrade the RAM a lot. And yes, the small screen could be a slight drawback if you use photoshop a lot. If you really wanted to shell out the bucks, then you could buy one of apples cinema displays, but yea right, who has that kind of money. Most heavy photoshop users would want to probably get the new imac G5 without the intel processor, as this has a bigger screen and more processing power.

I use my 14" 1,42ghz with 512 RAM ibook to edit photos and it works just fine for my needs. I usually edit 2Mb photos and it's fine. in fact the only time that photoshop take a little long to work was when i used photomerge to make a panorama. I was using 4 images and took about 45 secs i think.

Does anybody know how much photoshop costs? I want to buy it but have never found out how much it costs. And where can you get it at? The apple store? I did get the free 30 day download from adobe's website and so far, I love photoshop. I still have about 10 days left of my trial so I need to purchase it quickly. I don't want to purchase it online though. I live about 20 mins away from an apple store so I'm good to go if thats where I need to get it.

Check eBay. Plenty of people sell their software that they are not going to use any longer. They will sell you the license, and transfer it to you. Also, there are others who are retailers that sell on eBay at a lower cost than retail. You'll also find people selling pirated copies, but you want to stay away from them. If someone is already a thief, you certainly can't trust them to be good to you. Beware on eBay when it comes to software. Plenty of people who'd love nothing more than to screw you over.

And you know what ebay is coming to these days, 10 times worse than 3 years ago, because so many people go on ebay just to get a couple of extra dollars, and screw you over so bad it pisses you off. I have never even bought anything on ebay but am on there a lot looking at stuff and seeing how much it ends up selling for. I would like to buy some more older ipods on there kinda like to collect them.
