i just bought a 1.83 macbook and love it. no problems with excessive heat or that "whine" people talk about, though i'm not sure what i am supposed to be listening for. the store didn't have any memory upgrades and i'm thinking of upgrading to 2GB. i went to fry's and they have "patriot signature". has anyone tried this memory and know if it works well? i don't want to run into freezes or random reboots. if anyone has any expeiernce on this please let me know. thanks.

I'm not sure how much they want for that Patriot stick, but this Gigaram stick from Newegg has more consistent reviews - and nearly all of them are from Mac users. I plan on buying a couple of these once I have the $170 ($85 each, right now, they just went down in price).
I've found that people whose product doesn't work are more likely to write reviews then people with a positive experience - so the fact that there only two somewhat "bad" reviews (both had DOA sticks which Newegg replaced and which worked once replaced) is a pretty good sign.

Patriot works great on my MacBook 2.0. And for few dollars more, looks like you don't have to deal with DOA.

Went to Frys and picked up a 1gig of Patroit ram. So far so good and I have used my macbook quite often last weekend and no problems. (knock on wood) Sure beats paying 300 bucks at Apple. You can get Crucial for 170 if you really want the same hardware.
