I have a Powerbook thats about eight months old. If if have something plugged into the usb port and then restart the computer when it turns back on that port wont work. To get it to work again i have to unplug the device, restart, plug it back in once the compter is on and then it will work. Has anyone run across this or had this problem? Any ideas on how to fix it??? Thanks for your help.

Sounds like a hardware problem. The port is shutting off during restart. What device do you have attached? If it draws a lot of power from the port instead of being attached to external power, you could be tripping the power supply for the port. Get it checked at an Apple store.
