New firmware for MBP - do I need it if I'm not using Boot Camp?

There's new firmware for Intel Macs and to my understanding it's required in order to run Boot Camp.
However, since I have no intention of running Boot Camp on my MacBook Pro I'm wondering if it still makes sense to install the firmware update. Are there any bug fixes in this firmware update? Is there any reason other than Boot Camp to install the new firmware?

I upgraded mine hoping that it might do something about the whine but no dice. After the update, mine said the firmware had been updated to version 1.0.0. Is that right? I would have thought it would be 1.0.1 or something like that.

Troll, it was "Updater version 1.0.0". The first updater. Those who haven't updated have update version nada.

I'm still trying to figure out what benefit this firmware update could have for non-Boot Camp users. MacFixit had this to say about the firmware update:
Improvements aside from Boot Camp support
Some users are reporting that the firmware update brought about improvements other than support for Boot Camp (it's expressed purpose).
One reader writes:
"My MacBook Pro is incredibly cooler with both the Mac OS X 10.4.6 update and the firmware update.
"My MacBook Pro was also having a problem with the volume (it was weak at best - through both the internal speakers and the 'line out') - and the Firmware update absolutely fixed that problem. I get full volume control now."
I'm interested in the volume thing. I've noticed that max speaker output on my MBP is much lower than on my PB G4 1.67GHz. Can anybody here confirm that this issue is actually solved by applying the firmware update?

Well since 10.4.6 and the firmware update, Cinebench has been getting double the scores it used to when it comes to graphics - so it seems like, on the iMac at least, that the graphics stuff has been improved. Weather this is 10.4.6 or the firmware update, though, i don't know.
Why does it matter? Just install the firmware update, theres no reason not to!

Hmm, you know there's this old saying about how you're not supposed to tamper with a running system.
No but really, I'm tempted. I just wanted to know if/what benefit there is for people that don't use BC.
