Well, the only game I've really tried is World of Warcraft, but my Macbook Pro really had problems with it.

I find that really disappointing, because my old stationary 3200+ XP with an old Radeon 9800 Pro handles World of Warcraft with only a few details turned off really well.

Also, something semi-related which suprised me was that the same stationary PC plays 720p videos off Apple's trailer site with huge amouts of framedrops while the Macbook pro plays them just fine...

You sure you have WoW properly configured (video settings)? Turn everything down, then work your way up.

The X1600 should blow your 9800 out of the water. What resolution were you running your 9800 at?

Regarding HD video, your Macbook is dual core, your AMD is a single core (@ 2.2ghz)

One is CPU bound (H.264), the other is GPU bound (WoW).

But most people have been pleased with the performance of WoW on the MBP. Despite the performance penalty of running OSX instead of Windows, X1600 should still be faster than a 9800Pro.

Are you running the universal version (of WOW)?

There is some setting that you are supposed to change in WOW, there was a post a week or two back about it. If you search you should find it.

It's one of the check boxes in the video setup, apparently it really makes a difference.

If you are going to post about world of warcraft performance, post fps. Otherwise it's totally meaningless.
