I took my PB in about a year ago to have the battery compartment door repaired, and when it came back the lid hinge was (and is) much tighter. Normally, that wouldn't be a bad thing, but it's maybe too tight. I can't easily move it back and forth. Sometimes the hinge even makes a "crack" sound when first moving it to get it going. As I say, not a horrible thing, but I always felt it was stressing the case more than need be. But now I notice the lcd screen has some dark and light areas in it--again, not horrible--but enough to affect the watching of movies, etc. I'm wondering if this is the result of possibly putting too much pressure on the lid over the last year or so? And if so, if there's any way to loosen the lid hinge. Not too much, of course, but just to release some pressure so I don't have to crank on it to open or close it. Are there easily accessible screws to do this? In lieu of that, could I lube the hinge? I'm a little worried about getting oil on plastic and deforming it, but if I knew exactly where to concentrate the application, I might try that. In any case, thanks for the help.

Welcome to the forums!

Which PB do you have? If it's a Titanium, then yes, you really should loosen the hinges, because they can break. Anyway, report back as to what model you have...
