Since the MBP display is so bright, I'm wondering if Apple has trasitioned to LED illuminated displays. This would also eliminate the gradual degradation of the cold cathode lamp; this is what results in "pink screen". Having replaced the CCL in my 4 year old tibook, I'd like to know if the MBP still uses those. AFAIK, the only way to know this for sure is if someone has taken the display apart.

I doubt it, you would think they would market that. Does your MBP also have a really bad viewing angle on the LCD? Kind of gives you the effect of the projection TVs, where when you move your head there is a bright spot were you are looking and it gradually gets darker.

The only full-size LCDs (that is, not in cellphones, MP3 players, or PDAs) to use LED backlighting is the $5000 Eizo CG220 22" calibrated graphics display and the $15,000 Sony Qualia 005 46" HDTV. (A few other companies have announced LED-backlit displays, but they haven't hit the streets yet.)

So the MBP is definitely fluorescent.
