I'm new here, hi to everyone. I'm having a problem with my MacBook Pro, the screen is a bit grainy compared to other LCDs I have. Try this test and tell me what you see:
Open a large white window and move all over the screen staring at the surface of the screen (a precise point), don't you see several little grey splotches on the surface but inside the LCD?

I've been to the store where I bought the MacBook and I've seen that every MacBook has this problem.....I don't know whether to call the apple customer service or not, if it's normal then the display isn't that great....

In windows xp (through Boot Camp) this problem is much more annoying, a grey background is very grainy; maybe here it's a driver problem.

I'd like to receive more feedback concerning this topic, I hope you'll help me

Funny you mention that. I've got one of the PPC Albooks, and late last year the screen started to die on me. So, sent it to Apple, got new screen, but hmm, the replaced screen looked very grainy, so much it was unusable to me. It was very noticeable. I got Apple to replace that (it also appeared out of alignment, the lcd looked like it was being pinched in one corner).

The replacement was fine, much better.

Let me describe what I see on my MacBook Pro, and maybe we're talking about the same thing...

When I look closely at the screen straight on, it appears kind of grainy like you say... But I refer to it as sparkly or shimmery, and as you tilt the screen forward and back, the color uniformity is very uneven. It starts getting much darker at the top as your viewing angle gets lower. The effect is so strong, it makes looking at a solid color background like looking at a gradient.

When doing the same thing on my Powerbook, the brightness changes as you tilt the monitor, but the color fades uniformly (meaning it doesn't just get dark at the top first, it changes all at once).

For what it's worth, I've seen some 15" Thinkpad screens that are exactly the same way. That's part of the reason that I bought a 14.1" Thinkpad for myself. I certainly hope this isn't a trend on new laptop displays...
