Hey guys. So I'm trying to reload OS X on my powerbook so i can sell it off and buy a MacBook but everytime I boot to the Install DVD it gives me the apple with the circle under it for a while then goes to a Blue screen then it stops reading the disc. I did some troubleshooting on my own and here are the results

1. When i login to the system the DVD drive works fine. I can play music and DVD movies.
2. I tried using my external DVD drive (Hold cmd+option+****+delete) and the same results as when i use the internal drive.
3. Used another copy of the OS X install disc. (I work at a school so we have plenty of copies) and i get the same results.

Any ideas on how i can get the powerbook to fully boot the installer so i can clear it out and sell it off?

How long did you wait when the screen went blue? And are you saying you hear the disk spin down or something? How do you know it's not still loading?

Hey Steve! Thanks for the reply.
I once left the book waiting an hour on the blue screen for over an hour and nothing.
When i use the internal drive it i can hear it and feel it spin and then just stop. When i use the external drive i can see the access LED just stop blinking.
I have no idea what to do with it. My only other hope is to take it to TekServe (NYC) and have them take a look at it but they'll charge me something like $75 just to look at it plus the cost of repair. Problem is that anytime i've taken something to them it's always $400 for the repair. Thats been anything from a power supply for a G4 tower, to a G4 emac power supply to a G4 emac logicboard. Anyways hope someone actually has seen this and can give me some help.

Make sure no USB or FireWire devices are connected while booting. I've seen them cause this before (on other models).

Yeah when i'm using the internal drive there's nothing attached to the computer. It's just pretty crazy how it won't boot to the disc. No matter if it's DVD or CD, or if it's the internal or external drive.

Thanks for the tip though tooki.

No i've actually held down "c" to start from the drive, and also have held "option" so i can select which drive to boot to. The powerbook actually attepts each time to boot to the disc and begins to do so but alright after teh apple and dot wheel changes to the blue screen right before the language select is suppose to come up.

Are you using the original powerbook dvd? A desktop or iMac one will not work. They have become hardware dependent it seems. Also, an Al powerbook dvd will not work on a Ti 'book. You need the right dvd. The exception may be that a new, purchased separately, Tiger dvd may work on several systems fine.

Thanks for hte reply aehass. I actually tried an original Tiger DVD and a Panther CD. Retail versions. I work at a school so they have the OS disk. The original powerbook restore disc doesn't work either. Still no clue what's up.

If you have two RAM modules in the machine, try removing one or the other to see if perhaps one is faulty.
