I have a 12" Powerbook here, and am trying to connect it to a projector for a presentation. I have a multitude of connectors but none of them (or any combination thereof) seems to work. The PB has the mini-DVI port on it, so the adapter I have is a mini-DVI to DVI port.

Since the projector does not have DVI inpus, I also have the DVI>VGA connector. In theory this should work- except that the DVI-VGA connector does not fit on the end of the miniDVI>DVI connector. There is a problem with the DVI side of the miniDVI>DVI connector where the large flat "blade" pin is, my DVI>VGA connector has that large flat pin, plus 4 smaller pins surrounding it. The miniDVI>DVI connector, however, only has "holes" for the large flat pin, and no holes for those other 4 pins. Therefore the two don't connect.

Am I missing something here? Is there a different adapter that I need to get in order to get it to work? Something like a miniDVI>VGA adapter? Surely I am not the first person ever to try to connect a miniDVI PB12" to a VGA port, am I?

You need the mini-DVI to VGA connector:

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL....8.25.7.11.5.3

And that should have been included with your computer.

Interesting. It's not my computer persay (it's a common computer here at work) they have a multitude of video connectors but apparently do not have that one. Possible that it came bundled with the miniDVI>DVI connector instead of the miniDVI>VGA one?

It comes bundled with both adaptors. The only one not included with the 12" is the mini-DVI to composite/s-video out adaptor.
