1-does apple care work abroad? i mean, i imagine there are centers in other places but have people had good experiences?

2-he wants more ram. i was thinking newegg. any specific brand work better than others? apple's just seem too expensive.

AppleCare is global at least for Portables. I had the S key on my TiBook 667 die while in the Seychelles. Once I got back to Dubai I was able to take it into a service centre... but they would have to order an English keyboard which takes about 3 weeks so as I was going to be in Singapore shortly thereafter, I took it in to be fixed there - took about 3 days. I had a copy of my invoice and AppleCare agreement faxed to me from the US. No worries.
