I just got my powerbook back from Apple after getting it fixed. It came back with a 2 inch deep scratch on the top of laptop, to the right of the apple symbol. You think Apple would repair it? You think I should get it repair if they are going to fix it?

I am sorry to tell you that Apple could and probably will say that the damage (scratch) was evident when they received the PB from you. They may say that the damage could have been done in transit.
So the question you must ask yourself is this: "How can I prove to Apple that the scratch was not already there before I sent my PB to them for repair?"
Sadly, you probably can't - so therefore it's your word against theirs.
The only way around this problem is in the future to photograph your PB before you send it away for any reason. That way, in the event of your PB being damaged in transit or as in this instance damaged by Apple themselves, you will have the photgraphic evidence to prove that your PB's case was in good conition before it left home.
As you know, digital cameras record the date and time of when a photograph is taken.
On the other hand, Apple might admit their clumsy error and replace the case for free - but don't hold your breath!
Good luck

Haha... I don't mean it's 2 inches deep. I mean it's a deep scratch that is 2 inches long.
The scratch is deep, not a light surface scratch.

Argue until you're blue in the face if you have to. My friends iPod came back from them scratched and they replaced it.

I cannot stress enough that if an Apple store is in any way accessable where you are bring it there and insist the genious inspect the exterior and make a record before sending it off. Sending it off by yourself is simply a crap shoot. But yes, I would call Apple if I was in your shoes, although I would never find myself in that position. Good luck.

I once got an iBook screen replaced because it was scratched during a repair, but that was in Australia and through an Apple Centre. They were very reasonable. I would call Apple anyway and send a photo of the damage.
