Hi all,

I have a strange problem that no amount of Googling has managed to help with. All of a sudden, when playing DVD's on my 15" PB running OS X.4.5 the dialog audio is coming through tinny and weak, while the music and/or sound Fx are coming through strong! Clearly this is some kind of phase/surround sound problem. When I go to the Tiger sound preferences and pan the sound full left or right, the dialog sounds natural and full strength again. To make life even more interesting, I do not get this problem when I play a VIDEO_TS from hard drive, only actual DVD's through the superdrive.

tried: Upgrading to X.4.6, resetting PRAM, fixing permissions.

Any ideas??

regards

Malcolm

Did you try messing with the disk setup preferences in DVD Player? Have you tried another player like VLC?

Good call on using VLC - DVD's play back fine. so it's a problem related to just DVD Player just when playing back actual DVD's.

So i've also tried removing anything that looked remotely connected in the preferences folders, and also everything in the "settings" folder in Aplication Preferences - all to no avail. Any further ideas? It woudn't be the worst thing in the world to re-install my system on this machine but i'd like to avoid the work if possible ...

thanks for the suggestion

I meant did you go into the preferences in DVD Player and adjust the settings there? There are audio related preferences in the program preferences.

Yea, but there's not much or relevance that i could find there - "Audio Output" has but one option - "System Sound Output" and "Disable Dolby dynamic range compression" didn't do anything. Thanks again for the suggestions.
