I bought a macbook pro with revision a motherboard. I've had a decent amount of problems. I bought it inside the Apple Retail Store. I'm planning to take it back and ask for a newer model or a "fix"... The clone/restore feature of OS X works horribly for me on Intel... (i think it has something to do with the partition scheme) but how long if I drop it off should I expect? Do they just swap it out? What happens?

I haven't seen any confirmation of a new revision motherboard or other hardware fix from Apple.

Apple is already on minor Rev D of the MBPs, I think that is what he means.

There is no such a thing as revision D of the MBP. All MBP boards are revision A. Don't believe something just because somebody wrote it in his blog.

Well they'r on some sort of revision, as the MBPs dispatched now aren't as prone to all the problems the very first ones were / there are less of them.

Apple has never confirmed any revision changes. Not to the public and not to their authorized service technicians. There are no revisions other than the first one. Period.

When I got my MBP, the rumors claimed that week 12/13 MBPs should not have the whine, that Apple had been making revision changes starting with the week 11 machines, etc. Well of course mine had the whine. And so do most MBPs that you buy right now. Apple might be refining the production process or they might switch a hardware component supplier, but there are no new revisions and there is currently no way to tell if you will have whine/heat/whatever problems or not when you buy a MBP today.

Regardless what should I expect when I take it in? I have lots of problems... I don't care if they have a new revision or not, i know for a fact that the latest ones (like the 3 we bought last week, and 1 (2days ago) ) have no whine like the one i bought over a month ago.....

So obviously there are some changes, and they have to be hardware because the macbooks i bought this week for the office, HAVE NO WHINE, or any of the issues, and this was even before I ran the 10.4.6 update on them.

So regardless if apple is confirming a revision change or not (i doubt it would be called that, but you can tell fixes by serial numbers) The one's with new higher than 11serials have no whine problems.

Exactly, thats what I was getting at. Is your MBP boiling hot? If it is, Apple said that if you take it in to them they will replace it with a new unit. I'm not sure they will replace it for anything else though, or else they would have to replace all the thousands of MBPs already out there with any generic problem

I'm not sure I understand your last sentence. Mine is a W8612 and my g/f has a W8613. Both of them have the whine. Our lab bought a couple and got em yesterday. They are brand new (W8615) and all have the whine. I'd say, you can't expect anything. If the whine's a show stopper for you, you might as well give it back and wait till Apple has managed to get rid of it completely (if they ever will that is).

That's the unconfirmed rumor I was alluding to.
I've heard that the first production/shipping version of Intel products is Rev C (A and B are pre-production/beta), in which case a second revision would be 'D', but I can't find confirmation of that either.

Ah OK, thanks for clearing that up
