Does anyone know if the ibook can support the native res on this monitor (1680 x 1050) with the screen hack?

I have tried connecting it. The ibook can detect the res but the monitor is not showing anything. I also tried mirroring it but still no luck and also lowering the rest on the dell screen.

When connecting back to my dell 19" CRT monitor (1280 x 1024) its fine

VGA cable is fine since I can use it on my win box

Does the monitor support VGA- and DVI-input? If so, it might just be on the wrong setting. Try pressing the "Source" button on the front of the display while the iBook is connected.

Yes it does.

Not possible to make this mistake since the DVI is occupied by the Win box

Two possibilities/ideas (but note I do not know for sure)

Have you tried reducing the refresh rate? - maybe at that res the monitor cannot support it

[Does anyone know if you can use SwitchRes with the Screen spanning doctor?]

Also does your iBook have sufficent video memory? - to support 24 bit colour with 1680x1050 external and 1024x768 internal, you'll need at least 7.6 MB - I know your 'card' will have at least this, but I am not sure if you need a lot more - just an idea.

EDIT: Have you looked at the SSD forums : http://forum.macparts.de/viewtopic.php?t=998 - seems you can go to quite high resolutions
