Is is necessary to have a screen protector between the display and keyboard when the lid is closed or is this not a problem with the 15" MBP?

I didn't need one for any of my Aluminum Powerbooks, nor do I need one for my MBP. The keyboard and lid design keep the keys from hitting the screen.

I wondered this, too.

I just kept the piece of thin foamy stuff that came inside the MBP and keep that inside when I'm not using it.

Can't do any harm I gusess.

It doesn't hurt to use a screen protector. They are used in all of my & since they double as screen wipes they have been quite convenient!

Doubt u'll need it. If you look near the upper left and right side of your screen, you'll see two small foots sticking out. That's prolly to keep the screen from being smooshed into the keyboard.

But if those two foots aren't even or you have gap issues when closed at the edge, you might consider sanding it down a bit or something.
