I have a g3 ibook 300mhz with 284ram - 3GB - hard drive - cd drive. It came with os9. I really like osX. Can I put on 10.3? Would 10.2 or .1 run better? I know this is an old machine but I needed something til I go to court, see my other post: http://forums.macnn.com/69/mac-notebooks/290498/drunk-roomate-broke-my-powerbook/

I can't hook my camera to this machine so I can't post any pics of my other laptop yet.

Thanks,

Joe

i'd stay with os9 unless you max the ram... 10.anything would run painfully slow with 284mb of ram on that machine. if you cant up the ram and still want it, just use 10.3 as its faster than the others on most machines

10.1 is one legged dog slow... OS X got faster on G3's with 10.2 and faster still with 10.3... But with your limited RAM and drive space you might have to work hard to get a useable 10.3 install.

10.3 doesn't need more memory than 10.2 and it's much faster. Use 10.3.

I am used to using Mac OS X on older, slower, lower memory machines. I think Mac OS X 10.3.9 would work great on your iBook. I recommend upgrading the harddrive. Minimum 10.3 install is like ~2GB, for me just Mac OS and basic appls take about 3.4GB...

Definitely upgrade the hard drive first, then worry about the RAM.
