i did do a search and read on thread but it was kinda old. so......... what im thinkin is that i might want to sell my 15" PB 1.5Ghz and buy a macbook. but the thing is ive heard of a few bugs and its still pretty dag gone new out there on the market. so i would just like to hear some pros and cons on switching to a macbook from a powerbook.
i use my mac for vfx on after effects and commotion, modeling in maya, and like to do a little gamming in the spare time. from what i understand all apps from my PB will work on a macbook.
thanks,
S

MacBook or MacBook Pro? Because hopefully as of today, both exist (and 'MacBook' has been all but confirmed as the successor to the iBook line)
If you're talking about the pro;
Personally, I would not buy a MBP at present. So many people are having all sorts of problems withh them: heat, noise, poor screens, bad quality build etc etc, I would not want to invest in a MBP until Rev B (and I am not a 'dont touch Rev A stuff' guy, I have a Rev A Intel iMac & love it!)

Like the previous poster said... I really would hold off for now... and with Merom only being a few months away, your 1.5ghz PB is more than enough to keep you going...
Unless of course, you REALLY need to upgrade...
Best of luck...

I agree: hold off. As much as you may be tempted, it's not woth the time and hassle of dealing with the problems. You'll be so much happier if you just wait a little...unless you really NEED to get the intell book. If you powerbook is working well, there is no reason to switch yet.

yeah im talkin bout the MBP. that is all the info i needed to know guys thanks. im not the type to get things when they are the first gen either. unless its my camaro, haha, but thats different. ill hold out till maybe the second wave of MBP comes out and reviews are out about it. since my PB is no longer under warranty i might just throw donw a few bucks and have someone overclock it. or keep practicing my soldering on some dead circuit boards.

Man those 1st gen '93 Camaros were cool. I only regret I did not get a Z28; The V6 models were lacking power but I drove 10 full years with only a few real problems. Got an H3 now.Wish I could say the Macbook Pro was as dependable.

Well, now you may not need to wait. In addition to the the new macbooks, it appears the processor on the Macbook Pro has been upgraded. I believe that would count as Revision B correct?

I was thinking about the same thing. But than I wondered what I would have to give up. The MBP has no s-video out, which is a thing I use at least once a week for hours at a time. That is the biggest no no for me.
I don't use PCMCIA, yet, but I'm thinking about a cardreader, of course I could get an express one with the MBP so that wouldn't be such a problem.
The speed boost makes it almost impossible to say no, but not having the s-video out port makes it definite.

hi there, i am in the same boat:
i have a bto powerbook g4 1,5 ghz 2gb ram 80 gb harddisk, ati radeon 9700 w. 128 mb vram.
the machine is from 12/04. the warranty is out but the screen and the keyboard were exchanged by apple in 12/05.
now this machine is most of the time ok for me, but its also dog slow sometimes.
my main work for it is audio (logic pro) and flash-programming, incl. the occasional photoshoppe (but not for heaavy use, only rescaling, color correction etc.)
now since i still would get a reasonable price for my pb ( they go for around 1000 to 1400 € here at ebay germany) i was thinking about selling it asap and get a macbook 2.0 GHZ for the money (not a pro).
with this move i guess i would not lose performance ( or would i ?) and not lose money.
then i could wait until the next serious revision of the MBPs in a year or so ( i usually upgrade my working machines every three years) and have a pretty fast machine for the inbetween time.
any ideas, suggestions ?
thanks
