so, the roomie went to maui for a few days and let me mess around w/ her brand spanking new 17" MBP. Her MBP is the stock model, so is my PB, both have 2GB RAM.

I just wanted to find out how much of a difference there is b/w the 2 machines w/ regard to my everyday use. I mainly run safari, iTunes, adium, netnewswire, multiple office documents and apps, and PS.

after 2 days on the MBP I was more than happy to switch back to my PB. the MBP was significantly slower than the PB- almost to the point where it was unbearable. I don't doubt at all that the MBP is faster in many aspects, but as long as office and adobe CS is not available in universal binary, switching- for me, anyway- doesn't make any sense.

It sounds like you have already come to the best conclusion. It's always about individual needs. Until your apps are available in universal, there is no reason for you to get a MBP. Since I use my MBP purely for fun and games and the occasional job search its suits me just fine -- but in your case the PB is clearly the better choice.

When I had a PB, I didn't notice much difference at all between the everyday apps like the ones you mentioned. IMO your not missing out.

I thought I would chime in with my comments here. I bought a Powerbook G4 a couple of months ago, fully knowing the MBP was around the corner.

The reasons for this are purely because I need a stable environment, a tested environment per say. I could of gone for the MBP and had a faster system, but the speed difference for what I require between the two laptops was moot. In the end the Powerbook swayed me, being the last revision, also coupled with its higher resolution display.

Mind you, reflecting on that if I was buying a laptop as an additional computer to my collection rather than the main one, I would of definitely got the MBP.
