I had the brainstorm of ordering the 80GB model BlackBook and then popping in one of the new 160GB drive which are down to around 160Euro now (~$200). But a quick check suggests they are a little thicker than normal, and might not fit ... in which case I'd order with the 120GB drive. Anyone have any thoughts?

Where'd you get the idea that it's bigger? It's the standard 9.5mm thickness in the standard ~10x7cm footprint, the same as every other laptop drive on the market. Hitachi's 160GB laptop drive is the same.

They haven't made laptop drives thicker than 9.5mm since at least 2000.

From several German re-sellers:

"Fujitsu MHV2160BT (12,5 mm hoch)"

Another refers to the:

FUJITSU J60H 160GB HDD 4200rpm sATA serial ATA 2,5Zoll
as "7 cm x 10 cm x 1.3 cm"

This is where I got the "idea" from

Are there other 160GB drive that are 9mm high?

Maybe from me.

There are a few 12.5 mm laptop drives out there, including in the 160 GB size.

I didn't think there were any 160GB SATA drives out yet. Where can you get these from?

There are even 200 GB laptop drives out.

I wouldn't buy one though even if it did fit, since it's only 4200 rpm.

I'm also thinking about upgrading the HD as soon as my MacBook arrives, since the BTO costs seemed a lot higher. I've never tried a 7200 rpm drive--would this generate a lot more heat than a 5400 rpm?
